Honest story with some good food for thought. Needs a good copyedit due to some basic errors. I didn't find it to be too self indulgent as some have said. I think that's a cultural reaction against anyone who has anything good to say about themselves. Also there's a knee-jerk reaction some people have to try to tear down others who try to improve themselves. This is a fine story with some rough edges but is a worthwhile read.Product details

A Thousand Tiny Failures edition by Tony D Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Tony has a hilarious and unabashed writing style that lays out his seductive conquests in detail. He jokes frequently both about the interplay between men and women in the dating game, but also about his own short comings and philosophical views. I enjoyed each encounter he has with women, he puts each in their own chapter and he doesn't hold back anything. It's certainly a kiss and tell book! I think any guy can identify with the teenage angst at the beginning and the journey of self development that follows. My only issue is that it seems a bit short, I read through this in two sittings and felt like the ending could of simply have been the beginning of part 2. It was a quick but highly entertaining read.
This book is laugh-out-loud funny in parts, and full of hilarious descriptions of Tony's journey from small town Canada to living the life he wants. Quick read, too. Highly enjoyable.
My review comes from the perspective of a young woman living in Montreal. I am not a pick-up artist, as many of his readers are, but nonetheless I found the book highly entertaining and read it in a matter of days.
The first thing that struck me when reading this book was that I had never heard a man was admit to suffering from body image issues. I always thought that women were the only ones to suffer from body dysmorphia, and assumed men had it easy, not caring what they look like. It was refreshing to see the author's vulnerability in regard to his body.
Tony's story reveals the irony of loving women, but hating them at the same time because his entire self-worth was built on their acceptance or rejection of him. He took me on a continuous roller coaster of highs (the moments of feeling like a rockstar, an unstoppable man) and the inevitable lows. We can all relate to these feelings of self-love and self-hate. This is inevitable if your happiness is dependent on others (in his case, women).
Perhaps the part I enjoyed the most was seeing a man take action, and being proactive about his unhappiness. I found myself applauding him for stepping up and learning all he could to get what he thought he wanted in life. He went all-in. What I find most admirable about pick up artists is their belief that you are not destined to live a certain life-- you are a dynamic being and you change anything about yourself, including your personality. Tony demonstrates just how far some men go in the name of self-improvement. It makes you wonder if there really are any limits to who you can become in this world. He says in the book, "Limiting beliefs are limits you set for yourself."
Tony shows the evolution of a loser becoming a rock star in his own universe. I loved this line "Being a dating coach is like being a rock star, except instead of hot groupies you get awkward men." He shows a balanced, fairly un-glamorous view of a life as pick up artist.
As a woman, I found there were too many crude adolescent penis references (à la Super Bad) in the beginning of the book - perhaps it was intended prove how his penis was controlling his life. In any case, the alternating of humorous and emotionally vulnerable passages made up for it.
I highly recommend "A Thousand Tiny Failures" to anyone intrigued by the pick-up business, as well as any men or women who are looking for an entertaining book that will make you laugh.
Awesome book, well written and seems to be an honest telling of his experiences.
I really liked that the author talked openly and honestly about success and failure. It was also very entertaining to read.
Highly recommend
The author paces his adventures well. For the most part I enjoyed reading the defining moments of his 'masculinity development'. Each part of his journey leads to a lesson, win or lose. Anyone devout learning 'the game' should find this book refreshing as it is not glamorous... at all. While the hero slays dragons and bangs princesses, Tony D made it clear that in his relentless effort to get good at 'game', sacrifices were made that isolated him from his family and friends.
In other books that portray accounts of similar journeys of sexual awakening (most notably "The Game") the adventures usually remain in the bubble of parties, bars, alluring women, and ego trips, while including the intimidating new game-level to conquer and obligatory learned lesson of manhood. A Thousand Tiny Failures succeeded in balancing the one journey with the many, by showing the causes and effects of the main characters decisions in his careers and relationships, ultimately dancing with the question What makes a man?
Very well written. The writing style is comedic, but not over the top. I loved the metaphors used in the book, they were very creative and funny. The story seems to be about a discontent man embarking on a journey to discover himself through meeting women, and how jaded he becomes while ultimately trying to remain positive about people and life. It's not a common perspective, and Tony tells the story in an entertaining and insightful way. I finished it in 2 sittings, and I only took a break because it was 1 am and I had to bother sleeping!
Honest story with some good food for thought. Needs a good copyedit due to some basic errors. I didn't find it to be too self indulgent as some have said. I think that's a cultural reaction against anyone who has anything good to say about themselves.
