I was looming for a "Southern" summer read, and thought I would give Faulkner another shot. Once again, he was way over my head. This reader's guide helped a lot. It explains who is narrating each chapter, what their particular personality traits are and how they relate to the other characters, which was very confusing to me since my reading comprehension is not that great.The guide really helped me along. I would recommend it as a help to get through this book.

As there were so many characters, I wanted a head start before reading the actual book. My college grandson is reading the book and I wanted to be able to discuss with him. This guide was very well concise. Would recommend. I will now read the actual book.
Some may find this book helpful; the author paraphrases each chapter of "As I Lay Dying" modern language. Unfortunatly, it reads like a highschool book report with grammatical errors, poor word choice, and juvenile tone. Mr. Crayol's interpretation of the story and the characters is superficial and inaccurate as well. I would not recommend this book if you are looking for a measured and thoughtful discussion of Faulkner's rather challenging work.

I really wanted to know why I had such difficulty following the plot in the book, As I Lay Dying. Now I know. I really appreciated this author's analysis.
The Reader Guide was very helpful in a chapter by chapter breakdown along with some good study guide questions on characters and themes. I would have preferred some more in-depth analysis. I teach AP Literature and taught this book for the first time, so I did find this text helpful.
